Car Rental Terms
These terms outline the conditions of hiring a vehicle from Great Ocean Road Prestige Hire.
By making a booking or rental enquiry, you acknowledge and agree to the following terms.
A full rental agreement will be provided for signature before collection of the vehicle.
1. Driver Requirements
To rent a vehicle, you must:
• be 25 years or older
• hold a full, valid Australian or international licence
• provide matching identification
• only allow authorised drivers to operate the vehicle
Unauthorised drivers may affect insurance coverage and may result in the renter being liable under the rental agreement.
2. Security Bond
A security bond is required for every rental.
The bond may be applied in accordance with the rental agreement to cover amounts payable by the renter, including but not limited to:
• new damage to the vehicle
• tyre, wheel, windscreen or underside damage
• excess kilometres
• cleaning or smoking fees
• fines, infringement processing
• late return fees
• loss of income if the vehicle becomes unavailable
• any breach of rental terms
Remaining bond is refunded once inspection and dashcam review are completed.
3. Kilometre Allowance
Each rental includes a kilometre allowance based on vehicle
Excess kilometres will incur an added charge on the return of vehicle
4. Fuel
The vehicle must be returned with the same fuel level as supplied and with 98 Octane unleaded fuel ONLY.
Refuelling charges apply if returned lower.
5. Prohibited Use
The vehicle must not be used for:
• speeding
• drifting
• burnouts
• racing or time trials
• track days or motorsport events
• off-road or unsealed roads (except reasonable access)
• towing
• carrying pets without approval
• any activity causing excessive wear or mechanical stress
The vehicle must not be driven under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or impairing medication.
Misuse may result in termination of the rental and liability for damage and associated costs as set out in the rental agreement.
6. Condition of the Vehicle
The vehicle must be returned:
• in the same condition as supplied
• clean inside
• free from new damage
• with all accessories present
Cleaning fees may apply for:
• smoking inside the vehicle (500 dollars)
• pet hair (150 dollars)
• excessive dirt or stains
• deep cleaning or biohazards (from 300 dollars)
7. Dashcam & GPS Tracking
All vehicles are fitted with:
• front facong dashcam
• GPS tracking and speed logging
These systems operate for safety, security, and damage assessment.
Tampering with equipment results in bond forfeiture.
8. Insurance
Vehicles are insured for rental use.
A standard insurance excess applies (amount provided in the rental agreement).
In certain circumstances outlined in the rental agreement, insurance coverage may be reduced or excluded, and the renter may be liable for repair costs:
• reckless driving occurred
• speeding or dangerous driving was detected
• an unauthorised driver operated the vehicle
• the dashcam/GPS was unplugged
• the driver was intoxicated
A signed rental contract is required before vehicle pick-up.
9. Fines, Tolls & Infringements
All tolls are deducted from bond.
Speeding fines, parking fines and infringements remain the renter’s responsibility.
An administration fee may apply.
10. Late Returns
Late returns without approval incur:
• hourly late fees, and
• potentially a full daily rate if significantly late
If a late return impacts another booking, the renter may be charged loss-of-income fees.
11. Cancellation Policy
Cancellations are subject to our cancellation terms:
- 5+ Days Notice = Full Refund
- 2-4 Days notice: 50% Refund
- 0-2 Days notice: No refund
No-shows do not receive a refund.
Rescheduling may be allowed (see full policy).
12. Booking Confirmation
A booking is only confirmed when:
• the bond is paid, and
• the rental agreement is signed
Enquiries or holds are not confirmed bookings.
13. Right to Refuse Service
Great Ocean Road Prestige Hire reserves the right to:
• decline a booking
• cancel a booking
• refuse rental to individuals deemed high-risk or unsuitable
This is to ensure safety and protection of the vehicle.
14. Full Rental Agreement
These Terms form a summary only.
All renters must sign the complete Rental Agreement, which contains:
• detailed liability terms
• incident and damage procedure
• insurance conditions
• cleaning and misuse fees
• wear and tear guide
The signed contract overrides this summary in the event of inconsistency.
